After you cross off your to-do list,
after you wrap up the loose ends,
after you soak in the satisfaction of a job well done,
take a breath.
. . .
Now it’s time to deal with the real stuff.
Because the real stuff is the bridge between where you are and where you want to be.
Whaaa? You mean all the work I just did wasn’t enough??
Well . . . the easy stuff is not always easy, and it’s necessary to live your days, yes.
But the real stuff is necessary to live—really live—your life.
The real stuff is stuff is what you’re (probably) avoiding, the crutch you’re afraid to let go of, your patterns bringing you the same problems over and over again, even if they don’t look like it on the surface (it’s not me, it’s you/them/that).
The easy stuff says: Great job! You’re done! This is it!
You feel good for a minute. Then you get a little restless. You look for more, for deeper, for it to fill a void you didn’t know (or don’t want to admit) you had.
The real stuff asks: What kind of person do you want to be?
This bridge between the easy and the real spans a chasm; you see it when you start to wake up.
When you’re ready to face what’s real, you come to the bridge. Because you’ve run out of doing all the easy stuff, and it wasn’t enough. You come with eyes open, heart willing, looking fear in the eyes (respectfully).
Again. And again. And again.
You keep showing up.
That’s when you find your answer: This is the kind of person I want to be.
This is your becoming, and it is you, the real you, and it is exactly what you’ve been looking for all this time.
