There’s something about the fresh slate of a new year that’s so inviting. Possibilities seem more possible, success more achievable. This is the year for me! Things are gonna happen!
Truth is, each day, each week, each hour is a chance to start over. But when we’re caught up in our stuff, when there’s no countdown or a ball drop or a champagne toast, it doesn’t seem special enough to take it seriously. Why start now? Can I just quit?
But hey, it IS a new year, so there’s no reason not to take advantage of it. Countdowns and champagne might be fun, but more importantly, there’s a whole year ahead, and there’s no time like the present to:
- Start sharpening focus.
- Quit waiting for a better time to start.
- Start where you are.
- Quit postponing till you have it all together.
- Start with why, then figure out how.
- Quit comparing.
- Start thinking about long-term systems.
- Quit focusing on quick results.
- Start taking small steps everyday.
- Quit overestimating what you can do in a day, and underestimating what you can do in a year.
- Start building a habit.
- Quit picking one trend after another.
- Start doing the work.
- Quit expecting overnight success.
- Start making it fun.
- Quit making excuses.
- Start getting honest about what works for you.
- Quit trying to do it all alone (get help when you need it).
- Start learning, testing, getting up after you fall.
- Quit staying stuck; keep moving.
- Start, then keep going.
There’s a catch, though. 21 is not a magic number, and even with half of these (10 1/2, to be specific), seizing each day as an opportunity to start (or quit) is a shift forward. 2015 had its chance, and it’s done. 2016 is here now, fresh, clean and full of opportunities.
